The Project
Over a two year period, Capita Lovejoy developed the landscape and open space strategy for the selected developer for the Elephant & Castle masterplan.
The strategy identifies a system of fully connected streets, squares, parks and gardens forming a framework around which new, existing and future development can be structured.
A new environmentally responsive park was proposed on top of the new shopping centre featuring lakes, reed beds, wildflower meadows and birch woodland. The new traffic free central piazza is the largest square in London, designed to promote flexible usage, reflect seasonal change and be an animated and active ‘heart’ to this new district.
The streetscape will be transformed into a network of green links, encouraging bio-diversity as well as providing pleasant and safe leafy environments for local residents, visitors and workers, poor quality existing open space would be transformed into community squares, play areas, community gardens and allotments.
